Our Hearts Go Out to Loved Ones in Beirut

During this difficult time of mourning, our hearts go out to the Lebanese families who were affected by the tragic suicide bombing which claimed the lives of 43 people and injured over 230 more. The explosions, which detonated within five minutes of each other, took place in Beirut’s well-known Burj el-Barajneh area, a bustling commercial and residential district. In addition to the loss of life, the state-backed National News Agency says that buildings in the area have sustained heavy damages. Islamic State (IS, ISIL) claimed responsibility for the attacks, one of the worst in recent memory.

According to local authorities, a surviving would-be suicide bomber told investigators he was an ISIS recruit from Tripoli, Lebanon, and that he and the three other now-deceased terrorists had arrived in Lebanon from Syria two days ago. Lebanon’s prime minister held an emergency meeting with ministers and military chiefs on Friday as his country mourned.

While bombings and violence are not new to Lebanon, especially in the wake of the Syrian civil war and the increasing tensions with Israel, we at Terrace Restaurant want to extend our deepest sympathies and love for our brothers and sisters in Beirut. Stay strong, Lebanon, we shall overcome!
